Do not miss the rare opportunity to experience a truly authentic Chado at LongHouse Reserve this fall. Tea Master Ayako Souryo Takamoto and her group will prepare and share a bowl of Matcha tea with each guest in this intimate gathering.

Chado, commonly referred to as the Japanese Tea Ceremony in English, is a spiritual and aesthetic discipline for refinement of the self.  The Chado practitioners acquire and appreciate the four principles of Harmony, Respect, Purity, and Tranquility through the practice of over four centuries of knowledge. Chado is a composite of philosophy, arts and history that impact on Japanese culture until today.

For the past 400 years, the practice of the Urasenke Chado tradition has been continued by the direct descendants of Sen Rikyu. Tea Master Ayako Souryo Takamoto is the great granddaughter of the 14th Grand Tea Master Tantansai Sekiso, and has been presenting Urasenke Chado all over the world. She has taught Chado in Japan and Hongkong, and she is currently with Urasenke Chanoyu Center in New York City.

Other presenters are Tea Masters Yumiko Soumi Pakenham and Yuka Souyu Yamazaki, and Tea Practitioners Yoko Sanada and Takuya Suzuki, all members of Urasenke Chanoyu Center.

This presentation is made possible by the generous support of Sanada Family foundation.
