Judy Kensley McKie, a self-taught furniture maker, approached her work out of necessity in order to furnish her home. Excelling in the craft and learning through trial and error, she worked in a furniture-making cooperative until she resolved to create one-of-a-kind pieces. McKie derives inspiration from ancient Greek and Egyptian art, Pre-Columbian, African, Indian, and Eskimo cultures and folk art. She is the recipient of the Massachusetts Artists Foundation Fellowship, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation award-winner, and is featured in a book by Trapp and Risatti on American craft. Joining McKie’s beloved Lion and Elephant (works in the LHR permanent collection), are two bronze pieces, The Fish Bench and Sea Gull Chair.
