YOAN CAPOTE

Yoan Capote, the preeminent Havana artist, will exhibit at LHR with two major bronze sculptures. One is large and sufficiently long as to form seating for several viewers and therefore, a physical connection with the works.

Tran/Sit 2002 - 2013 looks like much-used luggage. It forms an unforgettable symbol of the psychological conflicts of those people who must learn to survive far from their homeland. Connected with a personal experience to the artist and the magnitude of Cuban exile, it is also inspired by the history of the American continent and its endless migration cycle.

Migrant 2010 - 2013 seems to be a pair of trees with their roots upended, but it, too, invites communal seating – a haven for weary travelers, for immigrants, and a metaphor illustrating the drama of starting a new life, leaving behind luggage, nostalgia, and memories.

Capote titles this exhibition The Other Nature of Things (RERUM ALTER NATURA) to evoke nature, mind, and soul.  It considers too, the plight of those traveling, or, of immigrants.
