Larsen Salon Series: The American Dream (June 7)

The Architecture of Central Park South

Cost:

$25.00 – $35.00 per person

Duration:

1h

Join LongHouse Reserve and Robert A.M. Stern Architects for a presentation by RAMSA Partner Michael Jones on the architecture and history of Central Park South. This talk will highlight the vibrant characters who left their mark in the area, including larger-than-life developers like Harry Black and Steve Ross, visionary designers such as Emery Roth and Dorothy Draper, and notable socialites like Truman Capote. Michael will examine the architectural features of iconic buildings like the Hampshire House, the Hotel St. Moritz, and the Sherry-Netherland Hotel, which have played a pivotal role in shaping mixed-use, high-rise residential spaces. He will also discuss how this historical context influenced the design of three RAMSA projects - 15 Central Park West, 220 Central Park South, and 520 Park Avenue.

The Larsen Salon Series, offered by LongHouse Reserve in honor of its founder Jack Lenor Larsen (1927-2020), carries on a tradition of conversations, presentations, and lectures by designers, architects, and artists working at the intersection of art, architecture, design, and craft. We offer these salons in Manhattan and East Hampton, at various spaces, to engage all of us in important dialogues of meaning in our complex world.
