Spring Colors Walk: Dance of the Daffodils (March 29)

Greet the spring season with docent Geoffrey Blatt on Saturday, March 29, from 2–3 pm, on this special, guided stroll through the LongHouse gardens. Experience wonder and delight at the vast number and variety of bright, cheery daffodils. While we wait for the earth to fully awaken from its winter slumber and buds to burst into vivid greens, enjoy heathers, hellebores, and other late-winter and early-spring shrubs and trees that punctuate the landscape with their brilliant colors.

Come, Sit, Stay: Dog Days

Let your pup romp in the Amphitheater, meet fellow dog lovers & members, and enjoy a lively, social start to the day. For everyone’s enjoyment, please keep dogs within the amphitheater!

LongHouse Talks: Kevin Wiecks on Telling Stories with Trees (May 3)

On Saturday, May 3rd, at 3:00 pm, join us for a presentation by Kevin Wiecks who will discuss his career in public horticulture and the importance of informed plant selection in relation to creating meaningful impact in the public landscape.

Kevin was appointed the the Director of Bayard Cutting Arboretum in October 2021. For four years prior, he was the arboretum’s Landscape Curator. He was responsible for plant selection and acquisition, as well as design and maintenance of plant collections throughout the arboretum. Kevin has an extensive history in public horticulture, working in many different types of gardens. He was the Horticulturist at The Cloisters, Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Managing Horticulturist at Long House Reserve in East Hampton; and the Senior Gardener at Randall’s Island, NYC. Kevin holds a B.S. in Horticulture from Cornell University and is an ISA Certified Arborist. He is also on the Board of NY Hortus, The Long Island Gold Medal Plant Committee and a Professor of Woody Plants at Farmingdale State College.

Painting Spring Buds and Flowers (May 10)

Bring your mom - or come solo to celebrate the season on Saturday, May 10th from 10am - 12:30pm. Cherry blossoms, magnolias, and azaleas burst into bloom, offering the perfect inspiration for a morning of painting in the gardens. Guided by artist Barbara Thomas, you'll explore color mixing, floral painting techniques, and how to capture the soft, luminous light of spring.

LongHouse presents a summer of art experiences that blend the beauty of our gardens - sculpture, flora, winding pathways, and ever-changing light and shadow - with the joy of creative expression. Guided by artist and educator Barbara Thomas, these painting classes are open to all, whether you're picking up a brush for the first time or have years of experience. LongHouse provides materials, but you're welcome to bring your own.

Barbara Thomas has been making art all her life. She studied at The Art Students League and Pratt Institute in New York and earned her MFA from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University. Her work explores nature and humanity’s relationship to it, depicting earth, sky, flora, and fauna in oil and gouache, as well as digital photography, video, land art, and sculpture. Known for her public art and commissioned pieces, Barbara has created everything from intimate tree portraits to large-scale murals. An experienced educator, she has taught art for over 20 years, designing museum docent programs, art school curricula, and lectures on art history and process. Evening Painting in the Gardens

Member Mornings (Saturday & Sunday)

Enjoy the peaceful beauty of LongHouse before the gates open to the public. On Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Members are invited to stroll the gardens at their own pace, soaking in the serenity of the morning light. Bring the family to the Pavilion, where activities await - we’ll have craft materials set out for you to create, experiment, and play. And on select Saturdays in July and August, our friends from Shine Studios will lead hands-on art projects for all ages. Reservations encouraged, walk-ins welcome.

Walking Meditation (Sunday)

Gentle Yoga with Jason (Sunday)

Breathe, stretch, and unwind under the open sky. Join certified instructor Jason Amis for a Gentle Yoga session designed to cultivate balance, flexibility, and resilience in both body and mind. Set on the soft grass of the Great Lawn, this class welcomes all levels - no experience needed, just a willingness to move with ease. Bring a mat or blanket and a water bottle (we have a refill station to keep you hydrated), and start your Sunday feeling refreshed and restored.
